About Course

The Mechanical Engineering Department was established in 2008 to cater the need of the Central Workshop at the B.Tech. first year. In 2010 B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering program was started; at present department has an intake of 60 Students.

The department provides a strong foundation for the overall growth and development of the students by enriching them with technical, analytical, quantitative, reasoning, ethical & linguistic qualities. The department has a pool of well qualified and experienced faculty having backgrounds from IIT, NIT and other reputed institute.

The department has Thermodynamics and Applied Thermodynamics lab, Fluid Mechanic lab, Dynamics of Machines lab, CAD/CAM lab, Material Science lab, Manufacturing Science and Technology lab, Heat & Mass Transfer lab, Measurement & Metrology lab, Fluid Machinery lab, Refrigeration & Air-conditioning lab, Automobile Engineering lab, Machine Design lab, Engineering Mechanics lab, Workshop Practice lab and Drawing Hall.

PROGRAMME EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

Program Objective 1

Graduates shall make their way to the society with proper scientific and technical knowledge in mechanical engineering.

Program Objective 2

Graduates shall work in design and analysis of mechanical systems with strong fundamentals and methods of synthesis.

Program Objective 3

Graduates shall adapt to the rapidly changing environment in the areas of mechanical engineering and scale new heights in their profession through lifelong learning.

Program Objective 4

Graduates shall excel in career by their ability to work and communicate effectively as a team member and/or leader to complete the task with minimal resources, meeting deadlines

Engineering Mechanics Lab

This lab has equipped with worm and worm wheel experiment, friction on inclined plane experiment, experiment on truss, belt pulley experiment etc. The objective of this lab is to learn various principles of mechanics, analyze the laboratory results and exposure to the systematic methods for solving problems.

Engineering Graphics Lab

The objective of this lab is to understands and prepare 2D/3D drawings on computer, to be able to understand plan, elevation and cross-sections to prepare drawings, a fair knowledge of units, scales and drawing instruments and their applications.

Workshop

The workshop imparts training in basic skills like fitting, casting, welding, smithy etc. The objective of this lab is to become familiar with various manufacturing processes, manufacturing instruments and various operations with safety precautions.

Machine Drawing

The objective of this lab is to understands and draw orthographic projections, fasteners, riveted joints, assembly drawings, specification on materials, limit tolerance and fits, 2D/3D drawings of simple parts on computers, couplings etc.

Fluid Mechanics

It has a variety of flow measuring devices venturimeter, weirs, notches, orifice meters and couple of equipments for flow study techniques for estimating losses in pipes, study of impact of jets over vanes etc.

Thermodynamics

The lab has equipped with model of fire and water tube boilers, 2 stroke/ 4 stroke petrol/ diesel engine, gas turbine models, petrol and diesel engine test-rig etc. The objective of this lab is to understand the working of boilers, petrol/diesel engine and analysis of experimental results.

Material Science and Testing Lab

The lab has equipped with Computerized Universal Testing Machine, Torsion Testing Machine, Fatigue testing Machine, Hardness Testing Machine, and Heat Treatment Furnace etc. The objective of this lab is to understand corrosion and its effect, various heat treatment processes such as annealing, normalizing, quenching, hardening etc.

Measurement and Metrology Lab

The lab has equipped with Micrometer, Vernier Calipers, Sine Bar, Slip Gauges, Dial Indicator

Manufacturing Science Lab

The lab has equipped with Milling Machine, Shaper Machine, Lathe Machine, Gas and Arc Welding Machine, Rolling Machine, Mould making and Casting, Sand Testing, Injection Moulding etc.

Machine Design Lab

The objective of this lab is to design and draw cotter joint, knuckle joint, riveted joint, different types of couplings, screw jack and to learn computer language and program etc

Heat and Mass Transfer Lab

This lab includes estimation of heat conduction in composite wall, natural and forced convection related equipments, double pipe heat exchanger, plated heat exchanger, emissivity measurements and a number of other equipments.

Refrigeration and air conditioning lab

This lab has equipped with refrigeration test rig, air conditioning test rig and a host of other equipments. The objective of this lab is to study window A/C, air washer, basic components of refrigeration and air-conditioning system and experiment on refrigeration test rig and air conditioning test rig.

Fluid Machinery lab

This lab has equipped with Pelton Wheel, Francis Turbine, Reciprocating Pump, Centrifugal Pump, Hydraulic Ram etc. The objective of this lab is to understand the function of various experiments, analyze the results and draw the performance curves.

Theory of Machine Lab

This lab has equipped with the Slider Crank and Crank Rocker Mechanism, Kinematics of Universal Joints, Kinematics Gears, Gear Train Experimental Setup, Governors Experimental Setup, CAM - Experimental Setup, Motorized gyroscope, Whirling of Shaft, Balancing of Reciprocating Masses, Balancing of Rotating Masses, and Vibration System - Spring Mass System.

IC Engine and automobile Lab

This laboratory has state of art equipments and has a variable compression ratio engine. It has multi-cylinder petrol engine, single cylinder diesel engine, 5- gas analyzer pollution check device etc.

CAD/CAM Lab

This lab has state of the art equipments and drafting 2D and 3D and computer-aided manufacturing. The various software incorporated for this purpose are AUTO CAD and SOLID WORKS with latest computers in an air conditioned environment.
